The Zone-tailed Hawk is not native to California, but this one has been seen wintering here for at least 12 years. The first photo shows him plucking a hapless starling off of a telephone pole. He was later seen enjoying his lunch. This photo was taken in January, 2004
The second and third photos were taken on October 9, 2004, three days after he was first seen in the Santa Barbara area in the fall of 2004.
The fourth photo was taken in December, 2006.
